You Have Less Time Than You Think to Make Your Web Design Work
How much time do you have to convince viewers that your web site is worth looking at? The truth is, it can be 30 seconds — or even much less. Internet users click back and forth between multiple web pages, shutting down web sites that don’t meet their needs with amazing rapidity. If your web site does not offer something fresh and useful right away, your viewers will simply walk away and never return.
In order to ensure that the first 30 seconds of your web sites are enticing and attractive enough to make your viewers stay, you need to work with the professionals at your web design company to create a stellar website. There are many ways you can do this:
1) Offer up your most important information upfront. The first part of the site that will load will be the top part of your home page. Rather than bogging this space down with animations, large photos, or useless headlines, go right for your best. Imagine that you have a chance to speak to a potential client for just 30 seconds. In those 30 seconds, you have to convince your client to use your service or to patronize your web site. What is the clinching argument? Do you offer the best rates on a specific service? What are those specific rates? Do you have a unique piece of information or a unique product or service? Specifically, what is it? Put that best information at top of your home page. Offer up the best incentive you can to encourage viewers to stick around.
2) Make your web pages download faster. The faster your page downloads, the more information potentially your viewers could be exposed to on your web site. Also, keep in mind that slow download speeds are certain death in cyberspace. If you make your web site readers wait to read your content, they will simply click away to competitors’ web sites. If your web site is loading slowly, find ways to eliminate design elements — such as animation, flash movies, or large files – and let your readers enjoy fast downloads. Also, do not forget to test your web site on several different computers. While your web site may download fast on a state-of-the-art computer, keep in mind that many customers and Internet users have computers that are two or three years old — or older. Visit an Internet café in and view your web site on as many computers and as many mobile devices as you can. If your web site does not download fast on all of these computers, consider simplifying your web site, or develop a no-frills web site for customers with slower computers.
3) Show what you have. Don’t bury interesting articles, content, images, and deals on web pages far away from your homepage. Make sure that you offer enough keywords and interesting acts upfront that your viewers know where to look for more interesting content. For example, if you have some great articles on your web site, pull out some of your best headlines and makes them linkable right from your home page.
